Implementing Cloud ERP software? – Don’t skimp on this one key area!

Cloud ERP Implementation: Don’t Skimp On One Key Area

Training your team on your new Cloud ERP solution is a critical success factor

If you are implementing or thinking of implementing a new cloud ERP solution such as MYOB Advanced from Leverage Technologies, there are several key areas to ensure you are allowing time and budget for – with both implementors and your users – and that is training.

We have been working on several cloud ERP implementations recently and the great thing about this is that we get to learn first-hand what does and does not work effectively and I have to tell you that trying to cut costs or save time by reducing the training for your team is not an area to look at for savings.

For sure, there are ways you can utilise tools such as video training, remote training and so forth but if you are moving from an entry-level system such as MYOB AccountRight or Xero to a more fully featured and robust solution such as MYOB Advanced then there’s a strong chance your staff will need more face to face/hands-on training than you (or they) may think.

Why is that the case you might ask, is it that the software is too complex or difficult to learn?

Well, the answer is twofold but primarily what we have seen is that the main driver is that most businesses, when they move to a new ERP solution, do it hand in hand with implementing new business processes and practices and that’s where the fun begins.

So you not only have the challenge of people coping with the new system but in many cases, they also have to get acquainted with new processes.

Implementing batch control, expiry dates, serial number tracking and moving from a periodic inventory to a perpetual inventory system can create major challenges for your team.

Make sure that you have explained the business benefits of making these changes first and foremost and then ensure that you are supporting your team with the required training on the processes as well as the software.

They’ll thank you for it afterwards and your overall cloud ERP implementation budget will look much better when you do the final cost/benefit analysis.
