This is blog 1 in the series – Your MYOB Advanced Implementation Questions Answered. – How long does it take to implement MYOB Advanced?

Let’s ask the expert MYOB Advanced Implementation team at Leverage Technologies to assist:

How long will it take to implement MYOB Advanced?

The length of time that it takes to implement MYOB Advanced will depend on multiple factors including:

  • Industry – are there functional or technical requirements specific to your industry? For example, the food and beverage industry has a requirement for HACCP standards which include traceability and quality control. The medical industry in Australia requires TGA accreditation for manufacturing or re-packaging.
  • Geography – how many offices/locations will be implementing MYOB Advanced and are all locations local (within Australia)?
  • Number of legal entities / ABN’s – one of the strengths of MYOB Advanced is the ability to manage multiple ABN’s in a single database. This makes inter-company, multi-company and consolidated reporting easy to implement and manage. However, the number of legal entities to be implemented and the complexity of each legal entity will impact the budget and timeline required to implement MYOB Advanced. If the companies are all in the same industry with similar requirements, then they can be implemented quickly. If each company has unique requirements and different users with different requirements, the implementation will take longer.
  • Number of users – greater user numbers will require more detailed training and user acceptance testing plans.
  • Internal “muscle” to implement ERP – how much resource does your business have to implement MYOB Advanced. When implementing ERP solutions customers often under-estimate the involvement of team members within the business to assist with data conversion, requirements analysis and user acceptance testing.
  • Functional requirements – your wish list of requirements and the complexity of requirements will have an impact on the time taken to implement MYOB Advanced. If your business has multiple warehouses in several states and requires complex purchase planning, this level of the functional requirement will take longer to implement than a business with a single warehouse and simple purchase planning requirements. Finance only implementations – general ledger, journals, banking, accounts payable and accounts receivable with financial reporting can be implemented relatively quickly. Full-scale operational implementations across distribution, inventory and manufacturing take longer to implement.
  • Development and integration – more complex implementations of MYOB Advanced will require development or integration to third-party solutions or in-house developed applications. Development and integration consultancy can range from a few hours (for simple projects) through to days and weeks for more complex development and integration projects.
  • Third-party solutions – are third party solutions required for specific functional elements – for example, accounts payable or expense management or integration to e-commerce platforms and EDI?
  • A phased approach to implementation – will your business be implementing all modules and functional requirements in one “big bang” approach or will you start with a phased approach to implementation?
  • Data conversion requirements – can have a substantial impact on project resource requirements and timing. Data conversion is often the single biggest source of time and budget overruns when implementing ERP. Make sure that you have a comprehensive data conversion plan when planning the budgets and timeline for your MYOB Advanced implementation. More information about data conversion requirements and planning for MYOB Advanced are available here.
  • Reporting requirements – don’t forget to factor into your implementation planning the requirement for reporting, business intelligence and analytics. MYOB Advanced has standard reporting options and is well integrated to several reporting and business intelligence tools. Having a structured plan for reporting and business intelligence is critical.

A guideline to MYOB Advanced Implementation timeframes:

MYOB Advanced offers great functionality for companies that have outgrown basic accounting solutions are looking for ERP solutions across finance, distribution, purchase planning, warehouse management, field services, professional services and manufacturing. Due to the broad range of industries that MYOB Advanced operates in and the factors referred to above (which can have a substantial impact on implementation timeframes and consultancy days to implement), it can be difficult to provide an accurate assessment of implementation timeframes without a detailed assessment of requirements.

As a guideline, MYOB Advanced implementation starts at approximately 15 consultancy days for a basic finance only (single ABN) implementation. A mid-range finance, distribution implementation including inventory control requires +- 35 consultancy days implemented over 3-4 months. A manufacturing implementation of finance, distribution and manufacturing takes +- 50 consultancy days over 4-5 months.

A vertical Market focus can reduce implementation timeframes:

Since 2005 the team at Leverage Technologies has been focusing on helping customers successfully implement ERP solutions. We have found that a vertical market approach to implementing MYOB Advanced in a cloud environment can greatly reduce implementation timeframes and the required investment to implement. This vertical market approach has allowed the team at Leverage Technologies to gain specific IP and experience in various industries. This experience allows for “repeatability” – faster implementation timeframes because similar implementations of MYOB Advanced have been completed previously by the team.
