When it comes to understanding the technical capabilities that our customers need from their business systems, Dean West has an incredible depth of knowledge. 

Dean has more than 15 years’ experience in highly technical industries as an engineer and in leadership roles, combined with a thorough knowledge of—and genuine passion for—MYOB Advanced.

“I’m excited to draw on the things I’ve learned throughout my career to become a trusted advisor and help each client grow their business,” he said.

“I see enormous potential to build awareness among Australian SMEs about what a value-for-money product MYOB Advanced is. 

“For a relatively small price point, the functionality is very strong, the financial reporting is very powerful, and it simplifies running a centralised business—many tasks just happen automatically.”

A stellar career in engineering, manufacturing, and operations

With degrees in science and mechanical engineering under his belt, Dean began his career in engineering roles with an emphasis on project management and designing products. He went on to achieve an MBA from the Melbourne Business School and moved into leadership positions. 

For more than 10 years, Dean honed his skills in people management, developing new products and services, refining processes and business systems, and driving revenue growth. This includes five years as the operations manager of a niche manufacturing company. 

“I was accountable for four sites and led the set-up of a new 3PL branch, and introduced other structural and efficiency improvements that resulted in 25% year on year profit growth,” Dean said. 

“I also successfully implemented new software to increase company-wide visibility and minimise the volatility of the manufacturing team’s workload.”

Dean found he had a passion for continuous improvement and the role of business systems in helping organisations deliver a quality outcome. In 2018 he was ready for a new career challenge, and specifically sought out work in the software consulting field.

Almost two years later and Dean has helped a variety of businesses benefit from implementing MYOB Advanced, across industries including manufacturing, nonprofit, agriculture and retail—and is looking forward to reaching even more customers as part of the Leverage Technologies team. 

“I’ve been able to step outside my comfort zone, but still transfer a lot of my operational insight and technical expertise to businesses seeking a positive change,” he said. 

“I enjoy talking to people about their businesses, understanding them, and assisting them to make good decisions about where and how to improve.”
